Feb 2019: South America & Antarctica On Sale!

Hola!

Today's email has a bit of a South American theme - We've had a range of specials for South America trips land in my inbox. If Patagonia, Machu Picchu or Rio de Janeiro (or anything in between!) are on your bucket list, the next couple of weeks are a great time to book.

Speaking of bucket lists, there's a brand new Antarctica cruise itinerary for 2020/2021 (it's not as far away as it sounds) and it looks amazing! The Discover Antarctica cruise is on a newly refurbished ship, and with the earlybird savings, it's one of the most affordable Antarctic expedition cruises we've seen!

Finally, if your passport is due to expire soon - it might pay to get it renewed this month. Prices are increasing for adult and child passports from 1 March.
Kind regards,

Brigitte, Natasha and Nicky

7 Reasons to Visit South America

1. World class food and wine – You may be surprised to hear that Peru has quickly become a world leader in gastronomy. The country is home to number 6 and 7 of the world’s best restaurants. Argentina and Chile are also 6th and 7th in the biggest wine producing countries in the world; New Zealand is 15th.

2. The most unusual wildlife experiences – Colombia is the 2nd most biodiverse country in the world with 10% of the world's bio-diversity with 19% of the world’s bird species. Colombia is only beaten by Brazil, home to a large part of the Amazon jungle and the Pantanal.

3. The best hiking in the World – For trampers, South America holds the best trails in the world that need ticking off the bucket list. To mention a few of the most dramatic;
•    Torres del Paine, Patagonia
•    Inca Trail, Peru
•    Fitz Roy Trek, Patagonia
•    Hike to the Lost City, Colombia

4. There is so much to discover – South America is brimming of natural places that are completely unspoilt; The Amazon Jungle, Pantanal, vast Patagonia, Andes mountain range, Galapagos… just to name a few.

5. Home to Machu Pichu - Wonderfully preserved for centuries, Machu Picchu is a sight of indescribable beauty and the mystery that still surrounds, not to mention its breathtaking location, makes it all the more appealing.

6. The end of the world and gateway to Antarctica - Ushuaia, in Argentina, is the most southerly city in the world and the prime gateway to Antarctica expedition cruises. It's a fantastic base for tours of Tierra del Fuego's huge fjords, boat trips along the Beagle Channel, cruises through Patagonia’s Glacier Alley and sailing trips to the Chilean Fjords.

7. South American countries are all so different –With cultures living in different environments all with a rich history, the continent is like nowhere else on earth.  Each region and country has world-class experiences.

Travel Tip: Check Your Passport for Damage

The NZ Herald recently reported about a teen denied entry to Bali due to a torn passport. Indonesia, in particular, has been very strict about damage to passports.

Normal wear and tear is usually not a problem, but any passport with rips/tears, water/liquids damage or damage to the ID page (or the chip inside of it) can be refused by the airline or customs.

If your passport is ever damaged, lost or stolen, you can get it replaced at passports.govt.nz

Did You Know...

You'll need to bring a reusable water bottle if you're off to Machu Picchu.

The Peruvian government has passed a law aiming to eradicate single-use plastics, travellers can no longer take single-use plastic bottles, bags, straws or Styrofoam containers on to the Machu Picchu site.

The measure also applies to all other Natural Protected Areas of Peru.
