Well what a week it has been, thoughts and prayers are with those who are affected by the earthquake and storms this last week. With NZ being a small country, I am sure we have all been proud of how the NZ spirit has banded together all across the country.

With family in Wellington and my daughter coming home from her studies there, getting a ferry and driving home the ‘long way’ visiting family on the West Coast, made for a busy week!

Recent events have got me thinking about the unexpected and the importance of insurance, so I thought I'd take some time to talk about travel insurance.

I want to take this opportunity to share with you a report created by Consumer and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Travel Tip: Make Sure Your Travel Insurance Covers Delays or Cancellation

Comprehensive travel insurance like the policies offered by QBE also cover you for travel delays or cancellation prior to departure.

One of the biggest claims I've heard of was a river cruise in Europe. The cruise was cancelled prior to departure due to flooding, and this happened within 60 days of departure... so everything (flights, the cruise etc) was non-refundable, and this was a huge trip. Fortunately, this was all covered by insurance and $55,000 was paid out.

This is why QBE insurance is my preferred travel insurance provider - they have UNLIMITED cancellation cover in their Leisure International policy.
